Repka named top 2A player
in state

East Bernard junior pitcher Courtney Repka
was named the Player of the Year on the Collin Street Bakery/Texas Sports
Writers Association's Class 2A all-state softball team released this week.
East Bernard's Amy Bush was named Coach of the Year and her
third baseman, Samantha Wasek, was named to the first
team.
Yorktown pitcher Jade Stock and Schulenburg shortstop Jessica
Schneider were selected to the second team, Hallettsville outfielder Latreece Haynes was named to the third team, and Yorktown shortstop Katy Rodriguez received honorable
mention.
Repka compiled a 31-4 record in leading
East Bernard to the school's first state title. Repka,
who was the Pitcher of the Year on the 2008 Advocate All-Area Team, struck out
431 batters while walking only 18 in 219 innings. She struck out 25 in 14
innings at the state tournament.
Wasek batted .446 with 38 RBI, including a
two-run double in the seventh inning that gave East Bernard a 2-1 victory over
Harmony in the state semifinals.
Stock won 22 games and allowed only 26 earned runs in 183
innings for a 0.99 ERA. She struck out 313 batters and also hit .394 with 24
RBI.
Schneider batted .501 with seven home runs, 46 RBI and 40 runs
scored. She was also 14-3 on the mound with a 1.42 ERA and 143 strikeouts in
123 innings.
Haynes batted .403 with 29 RBI and 17 runs scored.
Rodriguez, the Defensive Player of the Year on the all-area
team, batted .515 with 53 runs scored and 46 stolen bases.
