Baseball

New Braunfels 2-6, Hendrickson 3-4: Defending Class 4A state champion New Braunfels rallied from a four-run deficit to advance past Hendrickson on Saturday in a bidistrict playoff series.

The Unicorns won the series opener 11-1 Friday night. Hendrickson (23-9) won Game 2 on Saturday.

A two-out error helped New Braunfels (24-7) score five runs in the second inning of Game 3. The Unicorns had four hits in the inning.

Calvin Hoffman pitched the first four innings for New Braunfels to earn the win in the series finale. Clayton Mott pitched the final three innings to pick up the save.

Crockett 2-5, Conroe Caney Creek 1-4: Crockett, beaten in Friday's opener, rebounded to beat Conroe Caney Creek twice Saturday, steering the Cougars to a Class 4A area playoff series against Houston Waltrip. The teams play Friday night in Houston and at noon Saturday at Burger Center.

Brenham 6-6, Manor 0-3: Beaten 5-1 by Manor in Friday's Class 4A area series opener, Brenham (23-8) rallied to sweep a doubleheader from the Mustangs Saturday at Nelson Field. The Cubs advanced to third round play with the doubleheader win.

Lexington 7, Rosebud-Lott 1: Julian Bexley controlled opposing hitters and Cameron Brademan and Jimmy Terrell collected two hits each to lead Lexington (22-4) to a sweep of Rosebud-Lott (17-12) in a Class 2A best-of-three playoff. Lexington, a 6-5 winner in Friday's opener, plays East Bernard in area competition at Smithville, at 7 p.m. Thursday and Friday and at noon Saturday, if necessary.

Llano 2, La Vernia 0: Winner of an 18-13 opener Friday night, Llano (12-11) played stout defense Saturday in downing La Vernia (16-12) for a sweep of the best-of-three Class 3A playoff series. Llano plays Medina Valley in area competition Friday and Saturday.

Bandera 10, Luling 0: Bandera (20-7) wrapped up a sweep of Luling (8-16-1) with a shutout victory to close a Class 3A best-of-three series. The Bulldogs moved on to next week's area round with the win.

Softball

Tomball 4, McNeil 3: McNeil (25-11) was involved in a one-run playoff game Saturday for the second day in a row, but Tomball (22-10) left the Lady Mavericks on the short end of the score, advancing to the third round of the Class 5A state playoffs. McNeil had squared the best-of-three area series with a 1-0 win Friday, but fell short Saturday.

Boerne 2, New Braunfels 1: Boerne (27-9) completed a comeback from an opening game loss to edge New Braunfels (29-6-3) in the deciding game of a Class 4A best-of-three area playoff series, sending the winners to third round play next week.

Westwood 4, Spring 3: Brittany Mack, who won a 14-inning game Friday, had enough left Saturday to guide Westwood (34-3-1) past Spring (26-10) for a sweep of the teams' Class 5A best-of-three area series. Mack, who fanned 29 batters Friday, struck out 10 while yielding six hits. Westwood faces Tomball in a third round series, at 7 p.m. Friday and 6 p.m. Saturday in Bryan.

San Antonio Taft 6, San Marcos 1: San Antonio Taft (28-7) extended its domination over San Marcos (20-16) for a sweep over the Lady Rattlers in a best-of-three Class 5A area playoff series.

Vista Ridge 11, San Antonio Brackenridge 1: Given a 2-1 scare in the opener of the Class 4A best-of-three area playoff series, Vista Ridge found easy going Saturday to complete a sweep of San Antonio Brackenridge (16-16), setting up the winners for a third round matchup against New Braunfels Canyon.

Lexington 5, Schulenburg 1: Kelsey Brown scattered seven hits while logging 11 strikeouts to lift Lexington (26-5) over Schulenburg in a one-game Class 2A area playoff game. Lexington will face Weimar, which beat Jarrell in area play, in a best-of-three third round series.
